Between 23 and 24 January, the 13th Philanthropy Festival cum 2023 ESG Summit was held in Beijing. As before, the festival this year had a strong line-up of supporters, including not only Lang Lang and Wu Dajing as its ambassadors, but also more than 1,200 representatives from charities, and the business, academic, media and other fields, to spread the power of goodness.
As one of the most influential annual charitable events in China, the selection of awards at the Philanthropy Festival has attracted significant attention from the industry due to its prestigious and impactful nature. This year, Blue Moon - “familiar face” at the festival and leader in the daily chemical industry – had won the “Responsible Brand of the Year” for the ninth consecutive year, thanks to its outstanding performance in insisting on promoting green development and actively fulfilling its social responsibilities.
Over the years, Blue Moon has continuously implemented its ESG “Offer better products(services), more friendly to the environment and build a happier society” action principle, persisting with green and low-carbon development, and shouldering corporate social responsibilities while growing its business, as such has helped promote its own high-quality development and that of the industry.

In the context of "dual carbon", greening has long become an important development trend in the laundry industry. As the forerunner in low-carbon development, Blue Moon has continued to empower product innovation with technology and promote green upgrade of the industry.
Since it was established, Blue Moon has propelled twice leapfrog upgrade of the industry, and in the process it has found its green product development path. In 2008, Blue Moon took the lead to promote liquid laundry detergent, pushing the industry to shift from “powder” to “liquid”. Compared with soap and powder, liquid laundry detergent has the advantages of being easier to dissolve and rinse off, and more environmentally friendly. Then, in 2015, Blue Moon launched the first product with a measurable dispensing pump in China–"Blue Moon Machine Wash Supreme Concentrated Plus Laundry Detergent". Relative to ordinary detergents, the concentrated detergent has higher content of active substance per unit volume, greatly improving its cleaning efficiency, and it is less foamy and rinse easy, hence can help save water and electricity, in other words, more environmentally friendly. According to China Cleaning Industry Association estimates, if all Chinese consumers were to use concentrated detergents, 8.567 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity could be saved and 2.4211 million tonnes less of cleaning wastewater would be produced in a year.
To further promote green cleaning methods and advancing green development of the industry, Blue Moon has continued to invest in the field of concentration, launching finer streams of concentrated products suitable for different scenarios, while also actively researching and developing more efficient and environmentally friendly cleaning products. Boasting handsome green achievements, the Group was among the first batch of enterprises in the industry to gain "China Green Product" Certification. According to the Group’s ESG Report, a total of 26 products have obtained "China Green Product" Certification.
Currently, the green consumption market in China is rapidly growing. Data from the Policy Research Center for Environment and Economy, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment show that, in terms of practicing green consumption, the percentage of frequent buyers of green products had increased from less than 40% in 2020 to more than 60% in 2022. Blue Moon, which has been fostering green consumption over the years, is expected to gain the favor of more green consumers who are embracing the new green consumption trend and in turn see its value grow.
Practicing green production and operation Building state-grade “Green Factories”
At the same time, Blue Moon has pressed on with implementing green production across the entire manufacturing process, adopting environment-friendly technologies from the initial design of the factory to production and operational management. By actively bringing in high-efficiency production equipment, implementing energy conservation and emission reduction projects, and continuously optimizing and improving delicacy operation, Blue Moon has been able to gradually perfect its clean production system, realizing more efficient energy and water use, and built its Chongqing Factory and Tianjin Factory into state-grade “Green Factories”.
Moreover, Blue Moon has rolled out green initiatives in such areas as packaging and logistics. For example, for the former, it has developed and promoted lightweight and recyclable packaging materials, and for the latter, it has optimized logistics routes, packing materials, among others, all moves that can help speed up its green and low-carbon transformation.
To cope with worsening climate change issues, Blue Moon has actively implemented a number of carbon emission management measures. As understood, it had completed assessing greenhouse gas emission situation across the entire value chain of five factories, evaluation of the full life cycle of eight core products, and obtained carbon footprint certifications for four core products. These key environmental protection indicators again speak clearly to Blue Moon’s strengths in green development.

Actively shoulders social responsibility Contributes to people living better life
Enterprises, being the backbone of social and economic development, not only need to give play to their economic value, but also actively contribute to society. Blue Moon has always insisted on developing together with society, realizing its social value by actively engaging in philanthropic activities.
Specifically, capitalizing on its professional advantages, the Group has mounted a number of clean and health-related charitable activities. For example, it has for years continued to support the "Healthy Angel" Campaigns, organized health education classes in kindergartens in 25 cities in 2023 to convey clean and healthy concepts, letting children learn and form good hygiene habits. It also supported the “[Healthy Plan—Care for the Future]” (“安康计划—‘手’护未来”) charity project, donated and built 60 handwashing stations for 100 schools in Guizhou, while also conducting activities to promote hygiene and health knowledge to support school hygiene education .
In addition, Blue Moon is keen as a corporate citizen to help with disaster relief. In August 2023, when super heavy rainstorms hit the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, it donated at first instance RMB10.16 million worth of disinfection, sterilization and cleaning supplies. In December 2023, after a magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck Jishishan County, Linxia Prefecture, Gansu Province, it donated RMB5 million worth of disinfection, sterilization and cleaning supplies to the disaster-stricken areas to protect the health of people there.
Recreational and sports activities are an important part of living good life for people, and in this field, Blue Moon has kept contributing its strength. Since becoming the principal sponsor of the Graduates Art Fair in 2014, the Group has provided museum-level exhibition opportunities for nearly 24,000 artworks from around 7,300 artists in the past decade. Moreover, Blue Moon also partnered with the 31st Summer World University Games as the official exclusive supplier in the clean care category, providing high-quality cleaning support to ensure the smooth running of the games.
